Normal mode, Arkjok Ward, party of 4: first run got me 4 roots, next run got me 5 and the last got me 6. Three heroes and me, though I didn't really do much myself because I spent much of the time on the phone.
As for the gifts: 4 times 10 fireworks and 5 mysterious summoning stones.

Still waiting to see him show up in Unwaking Waters (explorable) outside the entrance to the Kurzick mission outpost and ask for 3 Titan Gemstones :O
I find it funny how quick people change their views on this new NPC. When he was first out, people were raving about this new option to acquire new items. Now I see people complainging about what they get from him. Not even a month in, and people already start to complain.

Solo'd with A/Me
1st Run, HM - First mob: 1 Root...died fairly soon after and lost patience.
Went back, NM - cleared entire area 9 Roots.
meh. Fine by me.
At least this way, people have to work if they want to make a profit from the items. Farm them, buy them, or wait till next week. Simple as.
I'd rather this than people just buying out the Rare Mat trader and charging stupid prices for zero effort.

I usually only get 1 or 2 per run (with human PUG).
But one run I got 6. Everyone was super jealous, but it seems to even out over time.
So far I got 3 gifts:
10 Hunter's ale
5 Mercantile Summons
10 Bottle Rockets
Still hoping for Gwen Doll or Moss Spider.

I went with my Sin + 3 Discord Necros + Devona => Got 5 roots per run on NM, 15 mins per run, had my 5 cakes with 3 runs plus 2K+ in gold.
I must admit that this Nicholas dude has made me go to places I hadn't gone in over a year.

i did 3 runs with 3 heros and got 4 each run, nothing special but this set of gifts is a grind compared to the others especially since you need 45 for all 5 gifts

Or, you could read the first post in this thread/consult the Wiki/talk to Nicholas and find out he wants 1 cake for 1 gift. So you only need 15 Roots per account.

I just find it funny that people complain about the time it takes to farm the roots (or the berries last week). You have a whole week to farm them, nothing says you have to get them all within an hour of him showing up at a new location. Farm a few each day and by the time the weekend comes you'll have all you need. Too many people out to make a quick profit and expect to get 10 roots per run.
This is a perfect example of how people now days are totally all about instant gratification. Its all " me first" and "I want it all RIGHT NOW" and "I don't want to have to work for it" mentality. And now people are complaining about the rewards he gives? Sometimes you just can't make people happy.
/end rant

You should have figured it would happen. Everyone wants to buy roots during the first two days - that's when you can make the most cash out of it. After that, well, farm at your leisure. If you only want the gifts, it's not an issue. If you want to make cash out of it, you have to farm a lot during the first two days.
That being said, eh, well, if you want the profit, you have to farm, and you have to deal with it.

[Shadow Refuge] - Keep attacking to get the large heal at the end.
Dont pull too many groups along with Enadiz and you should be fine for the rest.
(oh...and Kiting is ftw here also) ^^

Indeed. It is amazing that people pay for the roots instead of getting them themselves.
